The ABLE Institute Announces Computer Training:
August 1, 2007 (Boston, MA) – The ABLE Institute has teamed with IDL Systems in conjunction with Cambridge College to administer computer literacy training over the summer as part of a $200,000 grant from the Massachusetts Department of Ways and Means to under-served members of the Massachusetts workforce population
The grant was awarded to Cambridge College and IDL Systems based on revolutionary findings in blended education that combined online competency building with face-to-face instruction from IDL Systems.
The course was initially administered in the Lawrence branch of Cambridge College in 2005. With the combination of the online and in-class learning components, 91% of students completed the course. The rate is astounding when compared to traditional online course programs, which only achieve completion rates of 40 – 45%
“We have been thrilled to offer this great program in Boston,” says Brian Finkenstadt, the Director of ABLE.
The accelerated basic literacy programs encompass faculty led programs that include an online course for independent learning. The unique combination of online and face-to-face instruction allows for highly interactive and adaptive courses, increasing the learning process and ensuring retention of material.
In addition to ABLE and Cambridge College locations in Cambridge, Lawrence, and Springfield, the program has been offered at several local non-profit organizations and community colleges.
